Using the Rekenrek: Guess My Way
By Julie Adams (KCM)
Understanding that numbers can be composed and decomposed through various configurations empowers students to build deeper mathematical flexibility. In this video, we explore
the engaging "Guess My Way" math routine using a two-row Rekenrek. By challenging students to figure out a hidden target quantity (in this example, the number 6), this routine
encourages them to explore a range of combinations across the top and bottom rows. Following the description of the routine, we watch first grade students practicing the routines in pairs.
Targeted Standards: KY.K.OA.1, KY.K.OA.3, KY.1.OA.6, KY.2.OA.2
