Linear Measurement: Measuring to the Nearest Half or Fourth of an Inch
By Cindy Aossey (KCM) & Bethany Neel
Measuring to the nearest whole inch doesn't always provide the level of precision needed for a task.
In this video, we explore transitioning from measuring with whole inches to using halves and
fourths. The video shows how students might partition the inch-worms in the homemade ruler into
halves and fourths, and how third graders might record a length as a mixed number.
