Building Understanding of Decimal Division through Base-Ten Blocks and Area Models
By Kricket McClure (KCM and OVEC)
Students begin to build an understanding of decimal division using base-ten and area models
that connect to multiplication. In this video, we show how flats represent ones, rods represent
tenths, and units represent hundredths, and how these are used to build a rectangle for a
problem like 1.68 รท 1.2 to find the missing side length, connecting the area model to the
quotient of 1.4.
