Building Understanding of Decimal Multiplication through Base-Ten Blocks and Area Models

Students build an understanding of decimal multiplication using base-ten blocks and area models that make the
structure of numbers visible. In this video, we show how flats represent ones, rods represent tenths, and
units represent hundredths, connecting these base-ten models to area models and partial products, and later
extending the approach to multiplying fractions.
