1. While reading the novel, Homecoming, stop at the point in the story where Dicey must use the money she has to purchase her brothers and sister food from the corner grocery store.
2. See the worksheet (CAPPS) info below:
*******************************************************
Dicey is purchasing some food for her brothers and sister at the grocery store. They have been traveling a long way, by foot, and they have a long way yet to go. She must estimate her total bill before she reaches the checkout counter so that she does not spend too much money (all costs include sales tax). The following are the estimates for lunch.
- Bread $1.25 estimate $1.00
- 2 gallons of milk $3.49 estimate $3.00
- Bananas $0.99 estimate $1.00
Dicey has only $5.00. Does she have enough money according to her estimate? Does she really have enough money to pay the bill?
1. In a paragraph, explain your answers to the above questions. Clearly state the process you used to come up with the answer. Give a suggestion for how Dicey could stay within her financial means as they travel to Maryland in search of their mother.
