The Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leaders

Crystal Adams

I began my teaching career in January of 2004 after graduating from Brescia University in middle school math and science education. In the summer of 2023, I will finish my second masters degree from Murray State University. My first was in middle grades education and my current degree is in teacher leadership. In the fall of 2023, I will begin my Ph.D. program in Curriculum and Instruction through Texas Tech University.

I have taught in many different settings ranging from rural county schools to the inner city of Louisville. Primarily, my career has focused on math, but I have on occasion taught some science classes.

I am passionate about teaching math at the middle school level and am always looking for opportunities to improve my craft. I am currently teaching 8th grade math at Owensboro Innovation Middle School, which is a project based public school in Western Kentucky. Here, I have the opportunity to explore new strategies and to test old ones, all while engaging students in a focus on the application of what they are learning to the world around them.

Karima Badouan

Karima Badouan is a fourth grade teacher at Minors Lane Elementary. She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Elementary Education and a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology, from the University of Louisville. During her four years as an elementary educator, she has modeled and helped students develop a growth mindset by creating a culturally responsive environment that celebrates and engages all learners. Karima serves as team lead, member of SBDM, and a coach of the Cross Country and Basketball teams at Minors Lane Elementary. As a lifelong learner, she is excited to collaborate, learn and grow as a Math Teacher Leader with educators all over Kentucky.

Catie Bailey

Catie Bailey is entering her tenth year teaching at Sorgho Elementary School. She currently teaches fifth grade self contained, although has always had a passion for mathematics. Catie enjoys seeing students learn and thrive in mathematics and master the standards. It is her goal to help students fill their gaps and gain confidence in math. She looks forward to being a KYMTL as it will allow her to share her passion with other educators and continue to grow as math teacher. /p>

Amanda Baker

Amanda Baker is a National Board Certified Teacher entering her 11th year as a middle school mathematics educator at Paintsville Jr./Sr. High School. She has a Master of Arts degree in Teaching from Morehead State University and a Master Of Science degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Eastern KY University. Amanda is the middle school academic team coach, National Honor Society advisor and she also serves as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Prestonsburg, KY. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Paul; her children, Ethan and Caleb; as well as their two pets, Rue and TT.

Amanda Ball

Amanda Ball is starting her 7th year of teaching math at Tyner Elementary. She received her P-5 Education degree from Midway College in 2013, her Master’s degree in Gifted Education/Teacher Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University in 2016, and her Rank 1 in Instructional Technology from Georgetown College in 2018. Mrs. Ball is a Google Level 1 and Level 2 Certified Educator, a KY Seesaw Ambassador, a Prodigy Math Ambassador, and a former DynaMath Teacher Advisor. She is a Jackson County District Technology Academy leader, worked as a member of the KY Math Assessment Blueprint Review Committee, a KY Technology Standards Development team member, a KYGoDigital Leader, and teacher representative on Tyner Elementary’s Site-Based Decision Making Council. She enjoys combining technology and math to instruct her students, and also loves to attend and lead professional developments to improve mathematics instruction. Amanda is honored to have been selected to participate on KCM’s Kentucky Math Teacher Leaders Academy!

Kristin Ballard

Mrs. Kristin Ballard has a passion for blended learning and is driven to help students overcome barriers that impact their learning. She has a Master's Degree in Administration and Instruction from Grand Canyon University (2016) and a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Iowa (2011). She has taught in various classroom settings, most recently 4th-6th grade math at Fancy Farm Elementary School. Mrs. Ballard has served on various school improvement teams and served as a team leader. She was nominated for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics (2019) for her distinguished work.

Robin Barker

Robin Barker began her career at Boyd County Middle School in 2005. She has been in the Carter County district for 7 years, teaching 6th, 7th and currently 8th grade at West Carter Middle School.

Morgan Basham

Morgan Basham is a third grade teacher at RE Stevenson Elementary School in Russellville, Kentucky. This will be her ninth year teaching in the Russellville Independent Schools district. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky and a master's degree upon returning to her hometown to begin teaching.Morgan and husband, Clayton, and have two children, Addie and Stratton. A huge UK fan, Morgan and her family enjoy anything sports related! Morgan is honored to have the opportunity to participate in the Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader program and looks forward to not only growing in her profession, but also helping other teachers grow. The Russellville Independent School district has a strong tradition in education and excellence, and Morgan feels blessed to have been chosen to participate in the KyMTL program to help continue that tradition in current and future educators in Kentucky.

Brittney Brasher

Brittney Brasher is a graduate of Western Kentucky Univeristy (undergrad in elementary education in 2005) and Oakland City University (Masters of Arts in Teaching in 2009). She earned National Board Certification in 2019 as a Middle Childhood Generalist. Brittney has completed her 15th year teaching at Sorgho Elementary in 4th and 5th grade math and ELA. She and her collegues have worked diligently to vet math curriculums that provide their students with the essential mathematics skills necessary for success.

Tiffany Bratcher

Tiffany Bratcher is a current 7th grade math teacher at Burns Middle School, where she is making great progress towards advancing her teaching practices and leadership abilities. She currently holds a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as recently completing her Education Specialist Degree in Supervisor of Instruction. Although a young educator, she has been involved in many leadership roles. She currently serves as the homeroom committee leader, sponsors Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is a valuable member of the mathematics department at her school. Her experience in incorporating high quality curriculum and the knowledge of how to differentiate instruction based on student needs, allows her to create a positive and exciting learning environment. Her desire to impact education across the state, will make her an outstanding teacher leader.

Robert Brown

Robert Brown is a 5th grade math and science teacher at Park City Elementary School (PCE) in Barren County. Robert has been teaching for 5 years, all at PCE. Robert completed his undergrad studies at Western Kentucky University in 2015 with a degree in Elementary Education. He also completed a Master's degree in 2020 at the University of the Cumberlands in Teacher Leadership. Robert and his wife, Cody Brooke, and 3 children, reside in Barren County. Brown likes to demonstrate his passion for mathematics with everyone through the use of engaging social media posts, designed to get students and parents talking about math. He is also a 2-year presenter at the annual KCM conference, presenting on topics involving the use of LEGOs as a math manipulative and estimating for reasonableness. Robert likes to share his love for math with all of his students, turning apprehensive students into lifelong learners.

Ashley Buchanon

Ashley Buchanon is from Warren County, Kentucky and for the past eight years has brought math alive in the elementary classroom at Rockfield Elementary by encouraging students through accessible and engaging mathematical problem solving. Ashley's own math struggles inspired her to make math more than just memorization and numbers on paper. With the help of KCM, she now can continue this journey through an opportunity to collaborate with a group of like-minded, passionate teachers from across the state to blaze a trail for students. Ashley hopes to learn and teach others on the front lines how to step out of their comfort zones and try new strategies that students need to make math more accessible and meaningful.

Haley Burchett

Haley Burchett is the Precalculus and AP Calculus AB/BC teacher at Marshall County High School. She has been in this teaching position for the past four years and just completed her sixth year teaching. Haley has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Murray State University and a Master’s Degree in Teacher Leadership with an emphasis in Gifted and Talented Education from Murray State University. In her free time, Haley enjoys spending time at the lake or pool with family.

Meredith Chandler

Meredith Chandler is a math interventionist at Madison Middle School located in Madison County. This year will begin her 11th year teaching, where the first eight years were teaching fourth grade math before transitioning to middle school. Meredith received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Eastern Kentucky University in 2013; an M.A. as a Literacy Specialist from the University of the Cumberlands in 2016; and her Rank I in Middle Grades Math with a P-5 Math Specialist and Teacher Leader endorsements from Eastern Kentucky University in 2021. Meredith has a wide range of backgrounds to help her students see connections across multiple grade-level math concepts. She is helping to create a school-wide RTI program that allows students to grow dramatically. Meredith is currently co-authoring a book with her former math teacher and mentor, Mr. Don White. She currently resides in Richmond, KY with her husband, Wes, who is a sports broadcaster at Eastern Kentucky University.

Liz Chappel

Liz Chappel is a first-grade teacher at Second Street School in Frankfort. She has taught 11 years (10 of which have been at Second Street School). She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Then, went on to complete her Master of Arts in Education from Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky. Liz Chappel lives in Frankfort, Kentucky.

Lauren Childers

Lauren Childers is a third grade math teacher at Nancy Elementary School, beginng her sixth year teaching in the Pulaski County School District. Lauren has taught reading, social studies and writing, however mathematics has always been her favorite subject to teach. Lauren earned her bachelor's degree from Georgetown College before completing a master's and Rank I from the University of the Cumberlands. She is married to Michael Childers, who is also an elementary school teacher in the Pulaski County School District. In her free time, Lauren enjoys running a photography business, playing tennis and spending time with her two dogs, Reese and Byrdie.

Melissa Clark

Melissa Clark is a wife, mother of three and teacher. She is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University, earning both a bachelors and masters. Melissa has been teaching for almost 15 years and loving every minute of it!

Anna Collins

Anna Collins is a third-grade teacher at Woodlawn Elementary School in the Boyle County School District. Anna has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education with a double minor in Mathematics and French from Centre College (2015). She has a Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership Degree with an endorsement in Gifted and Talented Education (P-12) from Georgetown College (2020). Prior to teaching in Boyle County, Anna was an elementary English teacher in Southern France with the TAPIF program during the 2015-2016 school year. Having studied French for 10 years, it was an incredible opportunity and honor for her to begin her teaching career working alongside native French speakers. Through the TAPIF program in France, collegiate teaching programs in Ghana, Costa Rica, and Mexico, as well as mission trips to Haiti, Honduras, and Uganda, Anna has experience working with children all around the world and truly values her cross-cultural experiences and relationships both personally and professionally. She enjoys providing her students with opportunities to learn about and connect with children around the globe, specifically through pen pal letters and Zoom calls with children in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, Danville's sister city. Connecting with peers from around the globe not only encourages empathy, unity, and friendship but also brings awareness to our role as global citizens. Anna also enjoys coaching the Future Problem Solving team at Woodlawn and serves on her school's SBDM council. Outside of school, she enjoys volunteering in children's ministry at Southland Christian Church, playing piano, tap dancing, snuggling her two cats (Lola and Louie) and working logic puzzles. Anna has always loved math, both as a student and a teacher, and is excited for this opportunity to grow as both an educator and lifelong learner through the KyMTL program!

Niki Cornett

Niki Cornett has been teaching for 10 years and currently teaches 4th grade math in Rowan County. She graduated from MSU with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a mathematics component followed by a master's from The Cumberlands in Reading Specialist. Niki is currently working on her Rank 1 as an Education Specialist in Supervision of Instruction. She also teaches a math methods course at KCU on mathematics instruction. Niki has a passion for mathematics and enjoys learning new strategies.

Kaylee Crowder

Kaylee Crowder is a 6th grade math teacher and math coach for grades 3-8 with Russellville Independent Schools. She resides in Bowling Green, KY with her husband Tyler and two year old son, Huston. Kaylee has taught middle school math for 9 years and has dedicated herself to improving her craft each year. As a Kentucky Teacher Leader Kaylee looks forward to bringing innovative mathematics teaching practices her district, region, and the Commonwealth.

Sheila Cunningham

Ms. Cunningham is a native of Logan County and has enjoyed decades of service in middle grades and high school mathematics education. She has a deep desire to cultivate a love for the art of mathematics in others by supporting the development of strong conceptual understandings of content. National Board Certified, she currently teaches mathematics to middle grades learners at Chandler’s School. She is thrilled at the opportunities for growth and leadership with the initiation of the Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader cohort.

Alex Doolin

I am finishing my eighth year as a teacher at Kirksville Elementary School in Madison County. This is my second year as a fifth grade math teacher. I am passionate about teaching students and helping students develop problem solving skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. I have been incredibly blessed to work alongside several exemplary teachers at Kirksville Elementary. Kirksville is a special place where collective teacher efficacy is evident and teachers can truly maximize their impact. My students inspire me to persevere each day as new challenges are presented, and to think creatively so that I can best support my students and their individual needs. I am very excited for the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with other math teachers in Kentucky.

Jessica Dye

Jessica Lynne Dye obtained an associate's in Business Management, bachelor's in Elementary Education and a Teacher Leader master's degree. She currently teaches math at Inez Elementary School. Jessica has been the academic team coach since working at Inez Elementary and also works with the after school program at her school, providing tutoring and enrichment services for students. She serves as a teacher member for her school's site base council. Jessica has been married for 21 years to her husband Clarence, and they have one daughter, Ciara Hope.

Shawnda Earlywine

Shawnda Earlywine teaches 5th grade at Ewing Elementary in Fleming County. She resides in Ewing with her husband Justin, and her son, Jace. She graduated Midway University in 2012 with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education P-5. She is starting her eighth year of teaching and is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Education. In her spare time she enjoys time with her family and reading.

Jennifer Eerenberg

Jennifer Eerenberg has over 20 years of experience teaching elementary with this being her second year as a math interventionist. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and Math 5-9. Jennifer earned a master’s as a reading and literacy specialist. She received the Excellence in Teaching Award from Campbellsville University in 2022. While serving as a GoTeachKY ambassador, she worked with her local high school to begin an Ed Rising chapter. Jennifer just completed training in AVMR+ and is constantly seeking ways of improving math education for her students, including serving on several district math teams through the years. Leading a session at the recent KCM Conference, Jennifer feels educating parents is a key component to a well-balanced education. She is excited to strengthen her skill set with the latest research in mathematical pedagogy and instructional methods learned through the KyMTL program. Outside of the classroom, Jennifer shares four children and a goldendoodle with her husband, Brian. He is a principal at another school in the district. They enjoy traveling and spending time on their farm.

Danielle Epps

Danielle Epps is beginning her 9th year of passionately teaching math! She has the honor to brighten the horizons of mathematics for scholars grade level 6-9. Danielle considers teaching as the best thing to have happened for her career path.

Lorie Estes

Lorie Estes is a 5th grade Mathematics Teacher at the Green County Intermediate School. She has previous experience teaching 2nd, 4th and 5th grade mathematics. Lorie loves teaching and has a special love for teaching math. She is married to Adam Estes. They have three children; Matthew age 9, Eli age 5 and Lydia age 1.

Cathy Flora

Cathy Flora teaches 5th grade math at Potter Gray Elementary in Bowling Green, KY. This will be her fifth year at Potter Gray and my thirteenth year in education teaching from first grade all the way through sixth grade. She has taught self-contained, Social Studies/Science and Math. Mathematics is her passion. She is so excited to be a part of the Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader Academy and can't wait to become a stronger asset to her students, school, district and the state of Kentucky!

CJ Fryer

C.J. Fryer is entering his eighth year as a secondary mathematics educator and is incredibly excited for the opportunity to serve as a KCM Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader, making an impact on K-12 math education. He is passionate about mathematics and the students he has the honor to interact with every day in class, where he fosters a community centered around growth mindset and positive psychology. C.J. received both his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and his Master of Arts in Teaching from Thomas More University. He spent the first five years of his education career at Grant County High School, where he taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Honors Algebra II and AP Calculus AB. This coming school year will be his third at Beechwood High School, where he teaches AP Calculus AB/BC, Pre-Calculus, Mathematics Concepts and Math Lab for 9th and 10th Grades. He also serves as the sponsor of Beechwood’s chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School Mathematics Honor Society, where members compete in math competitions, attend local math lectures and bring excitement about mathematics to their peers. C.J. is a candidate for National Board certification, and he currently serves on the governing boards for both the Kentucky Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Northern Kentucky Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Outside of teaching, he referees soccer for the NCAA and KHSAA and enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.

Trenton Fyffe

Trenton Fyffe is a 3rd year teacher at Fairview Elementary where he currently teaches 5th Grade Math and Science. Trenton graduated from Morehead State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. He is excited for the KYMTL program and is eager to put practices and pedagogy learned from this into to his classroom.

Dana Gahafer

Hello, my name is Dana Gahafer and I am an Elementary Teacher in Jefferson County Public Schools. I graduated with my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Middle School Mathematics from the University of Louisville in 2010. In 2015, I earned my Master’s degree in Teacher Leadership. I have been teaching for 11 years with the majority of the time as a 4th grade Mathematics teacher. Growing up Mathematics was always my favorite subject and I have loved being able to share my joy and passion for Mathematics with my students. I am currently finishing my endorsement to be an Elementary Mathematics Specialist. During the past two years in this program, I have been able to collaborate, grow, and learn in my knowledge as a Mathematics educator. I am excited to continue to have the opportunity to work with others that share my interest and passion for Mathematics.

Alley Garner

Alley Garner is a 6th year teacher at Johnson Central High School, teaching Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and Statistics. She received her Bachelor's in Secondary Mathematics Education in 2015 and her Master's in Instructional Leadership in 2018, both from EKU. Alley has a passion for engaging students in meaningful mathematics and collaborating with other math teachers to share best instructional practices. She looks forward to working with math teachers across the state to be an agent of change in math education and grow in her math education leadership skills. Alley currently lives in Prestonsburg, KY with her husband, Alex, almost 2-year-old, Anna Beth, and their goldendoodle, Murphy.

Jessica Giles

Jessica Giles has been teaching at Calloway County Middle School in Murray, Kentucky since 2010. She is currently a 7th grade math teacher with previous time spent teaching 6th and 7th grade math/social studies. Jessica is currently the chair of the math department at CCMS and has served in other roles within her school, including the SBDM council, scheduling committee, etc... Jessica completed her undergraduate degree in Middle School Education at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Ky. She also holds a Master's degree in Reading/Writing Education from Murray State University and is currently pursuing her Rank 1 degree at Murray State. Jessica is married to her husband, Adam. They have a five year old son, Joel.

Jane Goatley

Jane Goatley is a special education teacher at Woodlawn Elementary School in the Boyle County School District. Jane has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and Spanish from Centre College (2012). She has a Master of Arts in Teaching Degree - Learning and Behavior Disorders from the University of the Cumberlands (2017). Prior to teaching, Jane worked at Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Bluegrass which serves Anderson, Boyle, Franklin, and Mercer Counties. There she coordinated CASA volunteers and served alongside family court officials to secure safe and permanent homes for abused and neglected children. Jane is able to use her experiences with CASA along with her background in math to serve and enrich her students’ education. Along with her continued service as a volunteer with the CASA program, Jane is an assistant coach for the Centre College Women’s basketball team where she played during her time as an undergraduate student. Outside of school and other activities, Jane enjoys spending time with her dog (JoJo) and cat (Tico).

Kari Goodwin

Kari Goodwin is a current 4th grade teacher at Rosenwald-Dunbar Elementary in Nicholasville, Kentucky. She is an enthusiastic educator who aims to provide a collaborative and welcoming learning environment as well as an engaging classroom atmosphere. Kari has a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a Masters degree in Education. She utilizes her mathematics background to build her students as mathematicians who utilize critical thinking and teamwork to persevere when solving real-world problems. As a member of the inaugural KyMTL cohort, Kari is excited to grow in her abilities not only as a mathematics instructor, but also has a leader within the district. Her ultimate goal is to help as many students as possible realize their mathematical capabilities and understand how math skills transfer beyond just numbers into all aspects of daily life.

LaTressa Graham

Latressa Graham is an eager and dedicated teacher with a breadth of experience. She is passionate in her commitment to teaching and has dedicated her career to inspiring students to be lifelong learners.

Brittany Guffey

Brittany Guffey is a 2011 graduate of Lindsey Wilson College with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. She received her Master's Degree (reading and writing specialist) from the University of the Cumberlands and is currently working on my second master's degree (school counseling) and doctorate degree (school leadership) through the University of the Cumberlands. Brittany has been teaching for 9 years, this being her 4th year at Albany Elementary. She has taught mathematics departmentalized in grades K-5. Brittany has been a part of several KCM trainings through my career and enjoys these trainings because they reach students on ALL levels and help teachers bring math education to students in a fun and real-world applicable way. She is very excited about the opportunity to bring her love and passion for math to her school and district!

Dawn Harrod

Dawn Harrod is a 12-year veteran teacher who has spent most of her teaching career at West Middle School in Shelbyville. She strives to create a classroom that helps students overcome barriers that might impact their learning whether those barriers are academic or social-emotional. She spent two years as the middle school gifted educator before finding her way back to the math classroom where her passion lies. Before Mrs. Harrod became a math educator, she was a CPA and often brings her real-world math experiences to the classroom. Mrs. Harrod has a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Kentucky, a Master in Arts of Teaching from Bellarmine University and a Gifted Education Endorsement from the University of Louisville.

Jennifer Hartzel

Mrs. Jennifer Hartzel teaches kindergarten at Westside Elementary in Harrison County. She is a 2010 graduate of Georgetown College (Bachelors-Elementary Education) and a 2014 graduate of University of the Cumberlands (Masters -Reading & Writing Specialist). Mrs. Hartzel is excited to grow in her knowledge of math instructional practices, as well as leadership development, during this experience. She is looking forward to sharing all that she learns with her colleagues during this year to continue to bring the best educational practices to the students in Harrison County and her assigned region. The opportunity to be part of a team making positive changes in the teaching of mathematics in our state is an honor and a role she is eager to accept!

Heather Hatcher

Heather Hatcher is entering her seventh year teaching at North Jackson Elementary School. She is currently completing her masters and rank 1 in administrative leadership. She also currently teaches sixth grade math and has truly found her passion in the world of mathematics. Heather loves seeing students succeed in math and it is her goal to help students gain confidence in math. She is proud to be part of the KYMTL group as it allows her to share her passion with other passionate math teachers across the state.

Lisa Heinrichs

Lisa Heinrichs is originally from Lexington, Ky and graduated for Western Kentucky University in 2014. She is currently the fifth grade math teacher at Walton Verona Middle School and has been in the district for the last three years. Lisa has a passion for mathematics education and is looking forward to growing as a teacher through the KyMTL program.

Kerri Henderson

Kerri Henderson graduated from Morehead State University in December of 2015 and has spent the last four and a half years teaching second grade in Menifee County. She is currently pursuing a master's degree at the University of the Cumberlands. Kerri resides in Mt. Sterling with her husband, Greg, and dog, Delilah. She looks forward to growing her mathematics content knowledge and becoming a better teacher for her students.

Bethanie Henry

Bethanie Henry is begining her 14th year as a fourth grade teacher at Rodburn Elementary in Morehead, Kentucky. She obtained her bachelor’s in Elementary Education, master’s in School Administration, and Rank I/Ed.S. in Instructional Leadership through Morehead State University. In my free time, Bethanie loves to kayak and enjoy the outdoors with her husband, Jonathan, and two dogs-Murphy and Gracie. She is thrilled to be part of a program that helps teachers continue to be lifelong learners and can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have on her students!

Tyler Hensley

Tyler Hensley is going into his fourth year as a classroom teacher. He obtained a teaching certificate in the area of Elementary Education from Campbellsville University. Teaching and serving his students is a calling that Tyler is passionate about. Mathematics is one of his favorite subjects because of the abstract thinking involved and the ability to apply it in so many different scenarios.

Kim Hill

Kim Hill has been a math teacher for 24 years. Her first two years were at Powell County High School and the last 22 years she has been at Madison Central. She has two daughter’s, Abby, at UK and Karli at Madison Central High School. She is married to Mose Hill who also teaches at Madison Central. She graduated from Owsley County High Schools and then received her Bachelors Degree in Secondary Mathematics Teaching from the University of Kentucky and her masters in Mathematics Teaching from Eastern Kentucky University. Kim has been a National Board Certified Teacher in Mathematics for 13 years.

Ivalea Hobbs

Mrs. Ivalea Hobbs has been teaching 6th Grade Mathematics at Lee County Middle High School since 2011. A 2006 graduate of Morgan County High School, Mrs. Hobbs was raised in West Liberty, Kentucky. In 2011, she graduated from Morehead State University with a Bachelors in Middle Grades Education (Mathematics and Social Studies) . She received her Masters in Teacher Leader from Union College. She currently resides in Campton, Kentucky with her husband and two children.

Amanda Holbrook

Amanda Holbrook has been in the classroom for 15 years. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Virginia’s College at Wise. She earned her Master’s Degree in Middle School Mathematics and Rank 1 from Union College. Mrs. Holbrook is passionate about teaching mathematics and instilling a love of mathematical learning in her students. She is currently teaching 2nd Grade at Martha Jane Potter Elementary School.

Seth Horn

Seth Horn has recently been accepted into the Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leaders Program. He always had a goal of coming back to his hometown to teach math. He has been a math teacher at Estill County Middle School for the past five years and has taught 6th grade each year. He has also been the 6th grade team leader for the past two years. Mr. Horn holds all of his students to high expectations inside and outside of the classroom. He hopes to bring what knowledge he gains from the program back to his school to help continue with the improvements that have occurred the past few years in the Estill County School System.

Robin Hyden

Dr. Robin Hyden graduated from Morehead State University in 2007 with a B.A. in Elementary Education. She also possesses a M.A. in School Counseling, a M.A. in Educational Technology, an Education Specialist, Ed.S., and Doctorate of Education Ed.D., degrees. She is a 13 year veteran teacher of the Johnson County Public Schools and considers herself to be a lifelong learner. She loves engaging her 5th grade mathematic students in activities that require students to engage in discussion, collaboration, and providing opportunities for success while thinking of the power of "yet" through a growth mindset. Dr. Hyden lives in Hagerhill with her husband Jeremy, son Jaxson, and daughter Matilynn.

Bennett Ison

Bennett Ison recently completed her fifth year as a math teacher at Morgan County High School where she teaches Algebra II, Geometry, and AP Statistics. She graduated from Morehead State University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Accounting. She pursued a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of the Cumberlands in Secondary Math and is currently attending Morehead State University to become an Instructional Leadership Specialist in Education. Bennett is a Morgan County native where she lives with her husband and two children. She is looking forward to expanding her math content knowledge and leadership skills as a Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader.

Candice Jewell

Candice Jewell is a fifth grade math teacher at Lee County Elementary, in Beattyville, Kentucky, which is her hometown where she was born and raised. Candice loves teaching math and making it fun for her students so that they learn to love it! Candice is married with two sons, Jake(11) and Seth(6). In her spare time, she likes to spend time outdoors with her boys.

Brittany Johnson

Brittany Johnson is a very passionate and dedicated mathematics educator with over 15 years of experience working with students at all levels of mathematics. Throughout her teaching career, she has been a classroom teacher, a teacher leader, a curriculum designer, and led District level reading interventions as the nation adopted the Common Core State Standards. Her teaching experience spans from kindergarten through college in large and small school districts, in both rural and urban settings, non-profit organizations, as well as education-based corporations. Ms. Johnson earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Cincinnati and a Master of Science degree in Education, with a focus in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University. She enjoys teaching K-16 students, working with her colleagues, and serving as a thought partner for high level District and organizational leaders on how to successfully integrate technology and real-world experiences into mathematics teaching and learning. Through implementing 21st century best teaching practices and skills, customizing course curriculum to meet the individual needs of students, and focusing on building relationships, Ms. Johnson has been able to elevate student proficiency levels, especially among high needs student populations- where she works to help students, who historically struggle with mathematics content, to understand how mathematics is applied to their everyday lives, especially outside of school. Her personal educational philosophy is that every student has the ability and capacity to learn mathematics, but that it is up to the educator to figure out how to meet them where they are and elevate them to the next level.

Heather Jones

Heather Jones taught 19 years with experience in third, fourth, STEAM education and as an Integration Specialist. She has a Masters degree in gifted education and is Nationally Board Certified. Heather has a passion for integrating science and math into project-based learning and combining a variety of subjects into multi-faceted lessons.

Sean Jordan

Sean Jordan is a teacher at Doss High School where he has been teaching for the last 10 years. Sean loves helping students learn math and looks forward to helping teachers across the state transform into the best teachers they can be. He is a big football and baseball fan too.

Mindi Keiner-Rummel

Mindi Keiner-Rummel has been in the education field for 29 years, with a focus on effective mathematics instruction and practice the last eight years. About 22 years of that time has been teaching students in middle grades; fifteen of which have been at Shelby County East Middle. Mindi has a B.S. degree in Elementary and Special Education with an endorsement for 5 - 9 Mathematics Teaching. She also has a master's degree in School Counseling and an Ed.S. in Administration and Supervision. She is married with two children, three dogs and a bird (a regular zoo!). Mindi wants all students to become better mathematicians by thinking critically and developing strategies to become problem solvers! She believes that participating in the Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader program will give her more tools to continue to improve her classroom instruction, allowing her to work with other mathematics teachers across the state

Amy Kellem

Amy Kellem began working for Bardstown City Schools in 2001 and has been teaching since 2004. In 2009, she began training in Math Recovery. Fast-forward to 2016, Amy became a Kentucky Center for Math (KCM) Math Intervention Specialist. Her relationship with KCM evolved her life as a teacher and a lifelong learner. She currently teaches STEM at Bardstown Primary School, where she also serves as a math intervention teacher and provides math support to teachers. Amy is married with three children, and has been a resident of Bardstown since 1999.

Priscilla Keller

Priscilla Keller is a 3rd grade math and science teacher at Ballard County Elementary School (BCES). She has taught for 14 years. Priscilla's passion is bringing math to life for students, ensuring that they have a growth mindset when taking on a challenge in math. Priscilla graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a major in elementary education, and received a master's in Elementary Education from Georgetown College. Sheis now a National Board certified teacher, a Kentucky Core Advocate, and a member of the Math Leadership team for her school district.

Erin Key

Erin Key has been teaching for twelve years, while the past seven years have been as a 5th grade math teacher. Erin has a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Arts in Education. Erin has taken on a number of leadership roles throughout her career. Erin has been a KTIP supervising teacher, 5th grade team lead, served on "Teaching Tough Kids" panel, collaborated with Cincinnati Children's Hospital on ImpactU project and a Program Review lead. Erin uses a variety of strategies to engage all learners while maintaining high-expectations through rigorous activities. Erin creates a cohesive learning environment that supports all students while introducing innovative ways to support mathematical learning. As a Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader, she hopes to increase her own mathematical content knowledge through immersed learning experiences.

Jill Kidder

Jill Kidder is a National Board Certified Teacher with 17 years experience in a math classroom. She teaches 6th grade math at Edythe J Hayes Middle School in Fayette County. She is dedicated to being a life-long educator and learner, and regularly seeks out opportunities to improve her practices. In the classroom, she is passionate about empowering students to see themselves as mathematicians and instructional practices that promote student thinking and discussion. She is excited to learn and grow as a Kentucky Math Teacher Leader.

Meredith Larison

Mrs. Meredith Larison has worked in the Boone County School District since 1992. She has taught all of the elementary grades at New Haven, Erpenbeck, Mann and Longbranch Elementary Schools. In the last 8 years she has been studying, learning and receiving extensive training of the KCAS for mathematics with well over 100 hours of training. She has a passion for the math instruction of our youngest learners and seeks to encourage other teachers develop the same passion for mathematics education.

Holly Lawrence

Holly Lawrence is an 8th grade Math, Algebra 1, and Geometry teacher at Boyle County Middle School. Holly has a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of Kentucky (2012). She also has a Master of Arts in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of Kentucky (2013). Outside of the classroom, Holly has coached the BCMS MathCounts Team since 2016 and the BCMS Girls Soccer Team since 2018. She was a recipient of the Best of Boyle County Excellence in Teaching Award for the 2018-2019 school year.

Kelly Lindsey

Kelly Lindsey is a long time educator, teaching math at Boone County High School since 2006, and many other places before moving to Northern Kentucky. Mrs. Lindsey currently serves as the Math Team Leader at BCHS and works with School, District, and Kentucky leadership, developing student-centered curriculum and advocating for expanded teacher efficacy. Mrs. Lindsey believes that student growth and understanding is directly linked to having the very best teachers in our schools. She is excited to be working for and with teachers as part of the KyMTL. When not doing math or mentoring teachers, Mrs. Lindsey participates in several music ensembles and enjoys singing. She is also a serious quilter and loves the creative outlets available to her.

Greg Longworth

Greg Longworth is a Math teacher of 21 years at Cumberland High School, after consolidating Harlan County High School. He has a bachelor's in mathematics, master's in principalship and earned Rank 1 in Supervision. Greg was named Harlan County teacher of the year in 2006 and awarded the Excellence in Teaching award 2020. Greg has enjoyed 21 years of teaching and is always looking for new and inviting ways to engage students- they are our future!

Stephanie Lyons

Mrs. Stephanie Lyons is a second grade teacher at Ponderosa Elementary School in Boyd County. She obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Morehead State University with certifications in elementary education, learning and behavior disorders, and moderate to severe disabilities, and received her Rank I through the Continuing Education Option with a focus in mathematics. She was a 2009 Campbellsville University recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award. Currently in her 21st year of teaching, Mrs. Lyons is a committed lifelong learner with a passion for spreading her love of mathematics with students and stakeholders. She has been a part of several district math and leadership teams through the years and is excited to further grow and share the latest research in mathematical pedagogy and instructional methods learned through the Kentucky Math Teacher Leader Academy.

Kristie Mattingly

Kristie Mattingly will continue serving Lincoln County this year but is excited to be serving at the district level. She began teaching high school mathematics and Calculus through Campbellsville University in 1993. After her children were born, Kristie taught at Eastern Kentucky University and became elementary certified. Teaching in both the private and public sector, she has taught everything from pre-school to the collegiate level and all levels in between. In recent years, Kristie has been teaching at Lincoln County High School through Campbellsville University and as a professor on campus at Asbury University. Last year, she served as a mathematics interventionist and math coach at Lincoln County Middle School. Kristie and her husband, Michael, attend Hustonville Baptist Church where Kristie has spent the past 19 years preparing and teaching weekly children's sermons. Kristie has two children, Auburn and Baylor. Auburn is a 2021 graduate of the University of Kentucky, currently working in Lexington as a structural engineer. Baylor is an engineering major at the University of Kentucky.

Paige Mattingly

Paige Mattingly graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2012 with a degree in Elementary Education. She continued her education at the University Of The Cumberlands with a Master's Degree in Teacher Leadership in 2015 and a Specialist degree of Supervisor of Instruction in 2017. She taught in Nelson county at Bloomfield Elementary for five years before moving to West Marion Elementary in 2018. Paige has specialized in 5th grade math for six out of the seven years she has been a teacher. She is passionate about teaching math in an innovative way.

Gretchen May

Gretchen May teaches second grade at Berea Community Elementary School, an independent school system in Madison County, where grades PreK - 12 are all on the same campus. She is National Board Certified and this will be her 30th year teaching. She has taught in four states and enjoys working with other teachers and families.

Haley Molen

Haley Molen was born and raised in Somerset, KY. She graduated from EKU with a Bachelor’s in elementary education and a Master’s in educational leadership. This upcoming school year will be her fourth year teaching at Shopville Elementary School. Haley has taught first grade, third grade math, and now fourth grade math. She is excited for the opportunities that KCM will bring to her classroom, her students, her school, and her district.

Chad Muncy

Chad Muncy is from Irvine, Kentucky and will be beginning his seventh year as a math teacher at Jackson County High School. He is a graduate of Morehead State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He also graduated Eastern Kentucky University with a Masters Degree in Instructional Leadership. He has been the Beta Club sponsor at Jackson County High School the past six years. He currently resides in Irvine, Kentucky.

Whitney Nichols

Whitney Nichols is a 2010 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a BS in Elementary Education. She holds her masters degree from Western Kentucky University in Teacher Leadership with an elementary math specialist endorsement. She has been teaching for 9 years. She taught Kindergarten for 7 years and has been teaching 4th grade math the past 2 years. She is passionate about helping all students feel successful in math. Whitney is married to her husband, Dylan and they have one son, Hayden.

Courtney Norris

Courtney Norris earned her bachelor's degree with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Secondary Education from Campbellsville University in 2013, and her Master of Arts in Education in School Counseling and Educational Specialist degree in School Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands in 2017 and 2019, respectively. She has been teaching for seven years at Clinton County High School. Throughout her teaching career, she has taught many different math classes ranging from Algebra and Geometry to AP Computer Science Principles. She looks forward to sharing her passion for mathematics and learning new ways to increase student achievement.

Teresa Plank is a mathematics teacher at Rowan County Senior High School. Over the past 28 years, she has taught the following mathematics courses: algebra 1, geometry, advanced geometry, algebra 2, advanced algebra 2, statistics, precalculus, and AP calculus. She has also been an Upward Bound summer math instructor for the past 9 years. She earned her bachelor's degree and master's degree from Morehead State University. Teresa loves math and wants her students to be successful. She has been married to Todd Plank for 27 years. Together they have two children, Cody and Nicole. Teresa is excited to be a part of KyMTL and is looking forward to sharing her experience with her colleagues and students.

Melanie Ramey

Mrs. Melanie Ramey has taught in the Johnson County School System for twelve years. She holds a Masters Degree in P-5 Curriculum and an Education Specialist Degree in Supervision of Instruction. Mrs. Ramey is a 2018 awardee of the Presidential Award of Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching which is the nation's highest honor for teachers of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. She recognizes the importance of advocating for quality mathematics instruction and learning. Mrs. Ramey looks forward to the professional growth and development offered to Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leaders.

Tracy Record

My name is Tracy Record and I am currently in my 25th year of teaching. I have been the math interventionist for grades K-3 at Ludlow Independent Schools since 2017. I am a high school graduate from Ludlow, so it gives me great joy to give back to the students who walk the halls that I once roamed myself.

I received both my bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education from NKU in December of 1998 and 2002. I completed my Rank I in special education from the University of Louisville in 2009. When I began my teaching career in 1999, math was the subject I struggled with the most. I struggled as a student and worked to grow as a math teacher. I made many, many mistakes with my students and it took me until I became the math interventionist to see growth in myself and advocate for my students and colleagues. My true passion is working with children and teachers making math both teachable and enjoyable for everyone. I truly enjoy helping teachers plan, teach and assess math in order to assure that all students will continue to develop math skills and succeed instructionally.

Ashleigh Roe

Ashleigh Roe is beginning her 10th year as a 7th grade math teacher. She is passionate about exploring new math ideas for her students, herself and her teammates. She has a background in elementary education and enjoys bringing station teaching to life in the middle school setting. Outside of school, Ashleigh loves spending time with her husband and three daughters going on outdoor adventures. She strives to instill the love of continuous learning in her own children, students, colleagues and looks forward to the opportunity to engage in that.

Stephanie Roemer

Stephanie Roemer is going into her seventh year teaching at Glasgow Middle School. At GMS she has taught seventh grade math, sixth grade math and a variety of different seventh grade math electives. Stephanie is a proud Glasgow alumni. She obtained her bachelor's at Western Kentucky University in middle grades mathematics and social studies - and her master's at the University of the Cumberlands in mathematics leadership. In addition to her new adventure as a Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader, Stephanie is a Google Certified educator and Apple certified teacher.

Kelly Simpson

Kelly Simpson is starting her 7th year in teaching middle school mathematics. Kelly has always dreamed of being a teacher and enjoys working with studets and watching them grow in their understanding of mathematical concepts. Kelly is a Military Wife to Jeremy, and they have a 1 year old son, Oliver.

Amber Snell

Amber Snell is a passionate mathematics teacher who cares about helping students and their supporters realize the importance and value of the logical thinking and problem solving skills that mathematics teaches us. Coming from a non-traditional educational background, Amber brings her business experience, from small business management and marketing to large corporation estimating, manufacturing, and cost savings, to share with students in the classroom. By making real world connections, through her own experiences and inviting others into the classroom as well, students are able to learn and see beyond the formulas on the paper to how they will apply in their worlds. Amber is an Eternal Colonel as a 3 time graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with double majors in Marketing and Psychology, a Masters of Business Administration, a Masters of Arts in Teaching (5-9 Math and Social Studies) and a Rank 1 in Business Education (5-12). She is an advocate of learning and helping students of all backgrounds, races, creeds reach their fullest potential possible.

Stephanie Starkey

Stephanie Starkey is a 4th grade teacher at Second Street School in Frankfort, KY, where she has spent her entire 17 year teaching career. She received her BS and MS from Georgetown College. Mrs. Starkey is a National Board Certified Teacher and also serves as the Track and Cross Country coach at Second Street School. She is married to her huband David of 15 years and has 2 children, Maddie and Bryan.

Allison Stevens

Allison Stevens has been a first grade teacher at Olive Hill Elementary for eight years. She obtained her Masters Degree in Library and Media Sciences from Eastern Kentucky University in 2015 and was National Board Certified in December of 2019. Allison is married to Derrick Stevens of Olive Hill and they have a three year old son, Henry. In addition to teaching, Allison enjoys spending time with her family, reading, swimming, growing flowers, and watching movies.

Heather Stevens

Heather Stevens is currently a fourth grade math and science teacher at Elliott County Intermediate School. She enjoys spending time with family, cooking, gardening and of course, teaching! Each year, her goal is to spark the excitement of learning in her students. Heather is so excited to partner with Kentucky Center for Mathematics to help reach that goal!

Bridget Strode

Bridget Strode is a 4th grade teacher at Hiseville Elementary in Barren County. She began her teaching career in Barren County in 2007 after graduating from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and then completing her Masters in Library Media Education. Although she has taught various subjects and grade levels, math is her passion and favorite subject to teach. Her goal is to teach students to love math and become math minded thinkers in and out of the classroom. She is thankful for this opportunity as a Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader to continue to grow and learn as an educator.

Angela Stull

I very first started improving my math instruction about 12 years ago when my principal sent a few of us to some "EERTI" meetings through KCM with Cindy Gross. It was fascinating to me how much I did not know about teaching conceptually in the Elementary years. The more I learned, the more I knew I needed to learn. I began to apply what I learned in the classroom and have tried consistently to connect with math educators through online webinars, social media, and trainings. Math makes more sense to me now. I know that I needed a teacher capable of teaching me conceptually instead of memorizing in isolation. I would like to learn more about impacting positive math change and improvement with students and colleagues.

Leigh Ann Summers

Leigh Ann Summers received a bachelor's of science degree in elementary education from Murray State University in 2003 as well as a master's degree in elementary education in 2011. She has taught at Lyon County Elementary for 15 years in first, third and fifth grades as well as serving as the math interventionist. She is currently the 5th grade math teacher and also coaches the elementary LEGO Robotics team. Math has always been her favorite subject to teach; she enjoys making math real for her students by incorporating real-world math into the classroom so they can see math is all around us.

Catherine Taylor

Catherine Taylor is a native of Logan County and has taught primary grades at Olmstead Elementary School during her 27 year career. She is devoted to her students and strives to develop a culture of learning and respect in her classroom. Her goal is to help students develop a hands on understanding and love of mathematics while in her classroom. Mrs. Taylor is excited for the opportunity to participate in the Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader Cohort to improve mathematics education in not only her classroom but in classrooms across the state of Kentucky. Michael Thomas is a math teacher and teacher sponsor of First Priority at Fairview High School. He enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, playing disc golf and playing/singing gospel music. Micheal is excited to be selected as a Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader and havin the opportunity to transform himself and others around him.

Nicki Thompson

Nicki Thompson is a Graves County Alumna, class of 2003. She is married to Jarrod Thompson and has two children, Jaelyn age 15 and Brody age 7. Nicki attended Murray State University to receive her Bachelors, Masters, and Rank 1. This school year completed her 11th year in education. She has taught K-4 grade. During her tenure, she has been a part of both school and district leadership teams. Over the last couple of years, she has begun presenting at district, regional, and state conferences. She believes that no matter your status in education you can always grow, learn, and continue to get better!

Tippi Thompson

Tippi Thompson is entering her 13th year of teaching. Tippi graduated from Morehead State University with a degree in Middle School Math and Science. She earned her Masters Degree in Educational Technology, also from Morehead State University. Tippi has taught at Boyd County Middle school for the last 10 years. During that time, Mrs. Thompson has taught 6th, 7th, 8th grade and High School Algebra content. Mrs. Thompson loves encouraging students to find patterns in math and helping them make connections to real life. Tippi considers herself to be a life-long learner and through Kentucky Math Teacher Leader Program, she is looking forward to making connections with math colleagues from across the state.

Kelli Tinsley

Kelli Tinsley teaches seventh grade math at South Warren Middle School. She has taught at both the elementary and middle school levels during her 15 years of teaching. Kelli lives in Scottsville, Kentucky with her husband and two children, ages 9 and 6. She is very passionate about mathematics and cannot wait to work with fellow math teachers from across the state as they lead and learn!

Shelby Tucker

Shelby Tucker has been teaching for 20 years. This will be her 6th year in Larue County. She enjoyes teaching mathematics and hopes to share that love with her students.

Mindy Weatherford

Mindy Weatherford has been teaching elementary school for 8 years. For the past three years, she has been teaching fourth grade math at Southwest Elementary School. Mindy is a resident of Calloway County. She loves being able to teach her favorite subject in such a great school with amazing coworkers and students. Jackie Weygandt is a wife and mother of two. She has been a teacher since 2005 and has a strong passion for mathematics. Cindy White

Cindy White is in her 15th year of teaching mathematics at Ballard County Middle School. She earned her bachelor's in Education from Murray State University, before continuing on to recieve a master's in Middle School Mathematics from Walden University. Everyday in her classroom is interesting, as her passion for mathematics pairs with her ability to create a classroom environment that she knows would have been benefited herself as a student. Cindy strives to make math an adventure in her flexible seating classroom.

Kellie Wolford

Kellie Wolford is entering into her 12th year of teaching. She has taught intermediate math for the past 9 years. She has a BA in elementary education, a MA in Special Education and a MA in Teacher Leader. Kellie and her husband Joshua have been married for 19 years. They have one son.

Rachel Yost

Rachel Yost is a second grade teacher at Rosspoint Elementary School. Mrs. Yost has taught grades kindergarten through fifth grade in her thirteen years of teaching. Her main focus has been in the primary grades. She is a National Board Certified teacher in the area of Early Generalist. She achieved this certification as well as her Rank 1 in Teacher Leader through the SOAR/STEM Initiative.

Mandy Young

Mandy Young was accepted into the first-ever Kentucky Mathematics Teacher Leader (KyMTL) cohort where she will collaborate with teachers across the state to improve math teaching. Mrs. Young is a 2001 graduate of GCHS. She is a National Board Certified Mathematics Teacher at Gallatin County Middle School, where she just finished her 15th year. She has been a leader in many areas of education including team leader and SBDM council (11 terms). Mrs. Young is excited to use her leadership skills to bring ideas from across that state to improve our local schools.
