KAMTE is excited to announce a new 2020 event designed specifically for pre-service mathematics teachers. We will host a virtual conference this fall that will address the needs and concerns of pre-service mathematics teachers. This event will provide opportunities for pre-service teachers to collaborate and network among peers from across the state.


Featured Speakers

We are excited to announce our featured speakers for the event, Jennifer Bay-Williams and Chris Franklin.

Jennifer Bay-Williams is a professor in the Department of Elementary, Middle and Secondary Teacher Education at the University of Louisville. Jenny has written many book which aim to help mathematics educators provide meaningful mathematics learning for every student. She is a former president of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators and a dear friend to KAMTE. We are excited to have Jenny join us at the inaugural pre-service teacher virtual conference!

Chris Franklin is the K-12 Statistics Ambassador for the American Statistical Association, and ASA Fellow and University of Georgia Emerita Statistics faculty. Chris led the KAMTE Statistics workshops the past two years. Chris, too, is a good friend of KAMTE. It will be an honor to have Chris return to Kentucky to share with us!


Kentucky Center for Mathematics Speakers

Julie Adams is a Regional Consultant, serving as a professional learning facilitator and offering support for the Mathematics Achievement Fund. She has worked with hundreds of Kentucky teachers in various roles and we look forward to her sharing her expertise with us.

Dee Crescitelli is Director at the KCM, providing support for the Mathematics Achievement Fund, designing professional learning courses, facilitating professional learning, and working with the Kentucky Numeracy Project. Her influence on mathematics education can be seen across the state and we are fortunate to have her share with us at this event.

Poster Session

KAMTE invites you, as pre-service mathematics teachers, to submit a proposal to present a poster that highlights any of your research or learning in your teacher education program. Research may include undergraduate research projects or action research in which you have participated. Haven’t participated in research? Present on effective teaching strategies, good teacher moves, motivating tasks for students, or anything else you have learned about that you think others should learn about too!

Examples of past posters presented by pre-service teachers are available for you to look at as you consider your own poster proposal.

To submit a poster for presentation, send the following information to Bethany Noblitt, KAMTE Past President, at noblittb@nku.edu: Name(s), academic institution, faculty sponsor, poster title and abstract.

We are also excited that the KAMTE Pre-Service Teacher Virtual Conference will be preceded by the KAMTE Virtual Summit on Thursday, November 5.
